Lot 124: CD 168 HEMINGRAY Color: Opaque Blackglass EIN: [027] Description: The main view shows this insulator against a black background. In all seriousness, the insulator IS blackglass! We lit it with the brightest light we have and didn't see a trace of color, even in the edges of the skirt. Very likely from the Hemingray dump. Wonderful rainbow-colored patina and swirls in various areas. Many pieces from the dump are quite beat up, and this one is far better than most, with no chips and just a couple of dings. It is believed Hemingray may have been making dark-colored insulators to compete with porcelain units. What an exciting and unusual piece! Estimate: $300 - $400 Open: $1 Price Realized: $231 |
