Lot 53: CD 143 CANADIAN PACIFIC RY.CO. [080] Color: Light Aqua Description: {Withycombe - 69 vertical ridges above and 9 left hand spiral ridges below wire groove} This is one of the "Withycombe" styles. Frederick Withycombe patented a number of variations on ridges and other projections, all with the same intent: to better "withstand the impact of foreign bodies" and thereby reduce the likelihood of breakage." One wonders why they bothered to engrave the mold "CANADIAN PACIFIC RY.CO." and then engrave the ridges on top so that you can barely see the name. This "Withycombe" insulator has vertical ridges on the dome and left-hand spiral ridges on the skirt. 1/4" base flake, about 1" wide area of ridge flaking on the lower skirt, fracture from the base to the wire ridge. The ridges certainly give this insulator an interesting presence on your shelf! Estimate: $100 - $150 Open: $1 Price Realized: $187 |
