Lot 23: CD 116 A.U. [020] Color: Aqua Description: While it's difficult to see the "A.U." blot out on the front, you can clearly see the "C" blot out on the rear, and thus can conclude it's the A.U. [020] embossing. This may have been a transition-embossed insulator, with earlier examples having a smooth base. Later, the sharp drip points were added, as well as the "PATENT MAY 2 1893" embossing, since the style of that embossing looks different from that on the front. While not embossed "DEC 19 1871", this is clearly produced by Hemingray, as it has drip points and the associated patent date. It is not known what the patent referred to as "PAT APPLIED FOR" was. Perhaps it was for the three ridges. These are getting harder to find. A tiny flake on one drip point; otherwise, it's very near mint. The three ridges make this a more interesting style than what you typically see! Estimate: $100 - $150 Open: $1 Price Realized: $220 |
