Lot 103: CD 180.5 FLUID INSULATOR [010] Color: Bright Light Aqua Description: The consignor said that his Mom was a "garage sale hound" and found this in the 2000's in SW Missouri. We understand there are 5-6 known examples, plus some damaged specimens. This one is in amazing condition for this style, with a few small flakes on the base, 1/4" wire ridge flake, a couple of 1/4" dings and a few dings here and there, all hardly worth mentioning. No chips, fractures, repairs, etc. It's nearly glowing aqua, and a stunning piece. There is a detailed write-up of its use on pages 49-50 of the Electrical Supply Company catalog of 1892. It features an unusual configuration: an oil cup, held in place with a special pin and cotter pin, designed to be filled with oil to further improve the insulation. In this way, it was very similar to the Liquid Insulator, neither of which was very successful. We'll quote the 2023 Price Guide value as the estimate and see where it goes! Estimate: $7,500 - $10,000 Open: $1 Price Realized: $32,175 |
