Lot 81: CD 159 GREGORY [010]  Color: Aqua  Description: These insulators are damage prone, as is this one. There is a repair to the top 1/4" of the dome. The fragile top and bottom right front corners are in excellent shape. The lower left rear corner is in excellent shape. There has been a small repair to the upper left rear corner. Both the upper and lower right rear corners have had repairs. The front bottom corner is excellent, and the front upper corner has a bruise on it. In the rear, there is a 1 1/2" by 3/8" bruise. Displays nearly perfectly from the front! Ferdinand W. Gregory received a patent on April 7, 1903 for developing an insulator with a wire groove that has a flat surface for the line wire. Most, if not all, CD 159s have been found on one stretch of a CPRR line that ran through the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California. This is a rare and desirable insulator that displays nearly perfectly from the front.
