Lot 82: CD 145.6 BOSTON BOTTLE WORKS [010] Color: Blue Aqua Description: Nicknamed the "Knob Top". As you can see, the dome is wide and tall, creating a larger-than-typical area of dome glass. 1 1/2" fracture on the side of one of the four segmented threads, in the front, 1 1/2" by 3/4" area of rough chipping on the rear skirt, a tiny flake on the inner skirt which unfortunately removes the "E" in "BOTTLE". A factory flaw removes part of the "R" and "K" in "WORKS". There is no other significant damage to report. The Boston Bottle Works began to produce insulators in the early 1870s and ceased production around 1877. Samuel Oakman was granted patents for three- and four-segmented collapsible plungers to form the characteristic threads. This is one of the scarcest of the already-rare "BOSTON" insulators, and was predominantly used along railroads in New York. Estimate: $1,000 - $1,500 Open: $1 Price Realized: $798 |
