Lot 31: CD 116.5 B [010]  Color: Light Aqua  Description: This uncommon CD has a very interesting shape featuring two deep wire grooves! Over the years, there have been various opinions on whether this was produced by Brookfield. Some say "yes", others say it may have come from a glass house in Elmer, New Jersey. A collector recently relayed the following story to us and a second confirmed it. We think it is significant and want to share it with all of you. Back in around 1974 Mr. William Brookfield, the grandson of the insulator manufacturer, was a special guest at a Capital District Insulator Club show near Albany, NY. He brought with him a box full of insulators that had been saved by the family, stating that the Brookfield company manufactured every one of the insulators in that box. Most were clearly marked "B" or "Brookfield", and there was an aqua CD 116.5, also marked "B". At the time it was extremely rare, and was thought to perhaps be a one-of-a-kind piece. Since then, more have been discovered, but it continues to be an elusive insulator to obtain. Years later, several partial examples of this style were found at the Brookfield Dump. Of course, finding something in the dump is never absolute proof that the style was produced there, but in any case, this is all interesting newly-acquired information. 1" wire ridge chip on the rear, 1/4" chip at the base of the threads, otherwise very near mint. Given Mr. Brookfield's statements, this insulator should now be of special interest to the Brookfield collector as well as to the CD collector!
