Lot 143: CD 168 HEMINGRAY [110] Color: Opaque Blackglass Description: Although most would consider this Opaque Blackglass, there is a small area of the skirt where you can just see a trace of color when lit with a very bright light. You can see the typical dings and pings characteristic of a Hemingray dump piece, although most areas are glossy black. Nice rainbow-swirled patina, especially on the rear. For another blackglass dump insulator, see the CD 230 in lot 154. It is believed Hemingray may have been making dark-colored insulators to compete with porcelain units.
