Lot 96: CD 158.2 BOSTON BOTTLE WORKS  Color: Deep Blue Aqua  EIN: [020]  Description: Your classic "Boston Barrel." 1/4" wire ridge chip and a few smaller ones. Some wear on the base. The word "BOSTON" in the embossing is a little hard to read. [  UPDATE: View 3 shows a picture of the base] Often found in Light Aqua, this example has a darker coloration. The CD 158.2 Boston is less common than the CD 158 variant. The Boston Bottle Works began to produce insulators in the early 1870s and ceased production around 1877. Samuel Oakman was granted patents for three- and four-segmented collapsible plungers to form the characteristic threads. A classic and desirable early Boston insulator!
