Lot 206: Fletcher's Insulated Iron Pin  Color: Aqua  Description: This is an assembly with a heavy iron pin and a split glass insert. The iron pin was painted black and has a nice patina now. The glass insert is Aqua. Typical flaking on the sharp edges of the glass. This unusual style was patented by John R. Fletcher on August 16, 1887 and sold by the Fletcher Manufacturing Company of Dayton, Ohio. It is shown in their 1902 and 1924 catalogs. One of the options specified ordering this with "opalescent glass insulations." It is fairly large: 9 3/4" tall with the glass center measuring 2 3/4" in diameter. It weighs in at 4 1/2 pounds. We understand that only six examples are known and these were found in a barn in New York. A year ago a similar example sold for $3,000 but we'll put a more conservative estimate on this one. A great "go-with" for those wanting an unusual and rare item!
