Lot 163: CD 723.3 {Unembossed} "Smooth Wade" Color: Blue Aqua Description: These early threadless insulators were produced around the 1860's and were designed for use with a wooden "shield" to prevent "Indian depredations", as reported in trade journals. Crudely made with a little chipping on the base. A 1/2" flake and a 1/4" ding/flake on the upper side probably make the condition better than most. These may have earned the nickname "telegraph glasses" and one can see why! Estimate: $300 - $400 Open: $10 Price Realized: $605 |
