Lot 10: CD 181 "Pluto"  Color: Light Aqua  Description: Most "Pluto" insulators were found in Arrastra Gulch, Colorado. However, in the trade journals at the time, it was reported that they were used for the "Electric Subway" which was featured at the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago, Illinois. The insulators were designed by R. H. Pierce who was First Assistant Electrical Engineer on the project. One drawing of that time period shows twelve tightly spaced crossarms on either side of the track, each containing five insulators! About a third of the rear skirt is missing, and there is a very light haze on the piece. The "ears" typically have chipping or flaking; they are even broken off and reattached. These ears are in great condition! If you are unable get a mint "Pluto", this example, which displays wonderfully from the front, is the one for you!
