Lot 4: M-2795 LOCKE  Color: Sandy Brownish Tan  Description: A little flaking on the "drip edge", 1/4" flake on the saddle, 1" base flake on the sleeve in the front. No chips, cracks, repairs! The sleeve and the top are still cemented together with sulfur as it came from the factory. Overall, this is in really astounding condition compared to most of the other examples that have been found. Stamped "VICTOR" and "FRED M. LOCKE" along with a wealth of patent dates as shown in view 3. To add to its desirability, the glass sleeve is embossed with the wording "LOCKE'S PAT'S / DEC 15-96 JUNE 7-98" as you can see in view 4. Fred Locke was granted a patent on May 19, 1903 in which he states in part "by using an insulator having eaves-trough terminating in the spout I make a more efficient insulator, for the reason that all of the water is conducted to one point and at some distance outwardly from the trough." An interesting design which is rare to find in such excellent condition!
