Lot 239: CD 140 "Jumbos" and Wooden mount  Description: Excellent condition with great patina! This is an unusual item. It consists of two aqua unembossed CD 140 "Jumbo" insulators (5" in diameter and 6" tall.) The tops are worn off like "chair leg" insulators are. The board appears to be oak and is 14" L x 5" W x 7/8" H. There are six holes for large flathead screws. Two pins fit snugly in the board and project out about 3/4". The pins are 5" tall and are threaded right to the base. When the insulator is screwed on, it is flush with the board. The pins are spaced such that the edge of the insulator is flush with the sides and end of the board. The insulators were under pressure; there is a groove pressed into the board where the base of the insulator sat. That's the physical configuration of this device. Now the question becomes "what is it?" A number of knowledgeable people were consulted, with expertise ranging from battery rests to substation configuration. It was felt that this was part of the base of an insulated stool or platform for someone or something to stand on; trade journals and catalogs of the time show similar devices. From all indications, this was something related to the Boston trolley system. We wish we could be sure of our conclusions! What you see is what you get!
